Scope of coverage of VDE
Relays are described by DIN EN 60255-1-00/VDE 0435 Part 201 - Electrical Relays. According to VDE 0024, relays are non-marking devices which therefore require no VDE test mark.
Declaration of conformity
The Kuhnke relays described on this website have been designed and manufactured in compliance with harmonised standard DIN EN 60255-1-00/VDE 0435 Part 201 and in accordance with the EC's Low-Voltage Directive (73/23 EEC).
CE Mark
At present, there is no directive that demands a CE mark for relays without defined time response characteristics. In practice some manufacturers have added the CE mark to some of their products. On this site the Kuhnke 8, 11 and 14 pin panel builder relays carry the CE mark, as do most Kuhnke and Song Chuan standard sockets.
EMC Directive Switching relays without defined time response characterisics (both electromechanical and semiconductor relays) require neither a CE mark nor the manufacturer's declaration of conformity as provided by the EMC Directive. The directive mainly concerns ready-to-use devices. Components that have become parts of other devices are incapable or operating on their own.
Machine Directive The Machine Directive differentiates between machines, parts or machines, and safety components. Relays fit none of these categories. They therefore need not carry a CE mark, and the manufacturer is not obliged to declare their conformity with the provisions of the Machine Directive.
Low-Voltage Directive This directive concerns electrical equipment, which is installed in other devices, and devices for immediate use. The properties of electrical equipment that integrates into other devices as well as the safety of the final product considerably depend on how the components are installed. This type of equipment therefore requires no CE mark. Examples listed in the directive include basic electromechanical components such as as plug-and-socket connectors, relays with PCB connectors and microswitches. These rules also apply to relays with plug-type connectors which are optionally available with PCB connectors. An exception are larger relays in conjunction with sockets that are installed in switching cabinets exclusively. This is why Kuhnke 8, 11 and 14 pin panel builder relays carry the CE mark, as well as most Kuhnke and Song Chuan standard sockets.

Most Kuhnke and Song Chuan relays shown in these pages carry UL/CSA approval and are marked accordingly. Please check the individual product details where possible or contact us.
